I was please to meet with Maryhill Integration Network (MIN), along with Patrick Grady MP, Stuart McDonald MP and Alison Thewliss MP.
MIN Voices members highlighted various struggles and concerns arising from the inadequate UK asylum system, reserved to the Westminster Government.
MIN members told us of concerns about the prolonged period of time many wait for a determination on their asylum claim, concerns over the dispersal process for those seeking asylum, the poor quality of accommodation and lack of wider support.
Asylum seekers have no recourse to public funds and often have no right to work. With very limited funds it can be almost impossible to afford to travel. The system can be hugely damaging and isolating.
I have been making representations to the Scottish Government to attempt to secure for free bus travel for asylum seekers and refugees; such as below:-

I also heard about the need to extend opportunities within further and higher education. This is something I have also been making representations on. I continue to support the work of MIN and I am always keen to hear the first-hand lived experience of their members.
