A number of constituents have been in touch about the work on the new bridge at Stockingfield Junction. I have had an update from the project team which I wanted to share with you.
I will also be meeting with the project team in the coming weeks. If constituents have any issues or comments they would like to raise to my attention, I would be very happy to discuss these with the project team.
Stockingfield Bridge is being delivered by Scottish Canals through contractor Balfour Beatty to a design by Jacobs. It is being funded by Glasgow City Council, Sustrans and the Scottish Government (via Transport Scotland).
Noise
Following consultation with local residents, the project team have managed to reduce the noise by amending the hours of operation which are now Monday to Friday from 7:30 to 6pm. They have told me they are working with the local community to address concerns, however constituents can also contact me if they wish to raise any matter. The team have also told me they are aware there is another sheet piling project being carried out in the local area which is not connected to Scottish Canals, Balfour Beatty or the project.
Lochburn Road Tunnel Traffic Lights
New traffic signals at Lochburn Road tunnel will be operational from early March which hopefully will improve safety at the tunnel.
Artwork
An art subgroup with some of the local people who attended the public meeting has been setup by the project team. This group have now chosen a selection of pictures taken by local photographer Brian Sweeney which will shortly be installed on the site hoarding boards. This will be refreshed by local art later in the year. The team have also appointed an art liaison contractor - Nichol Wheatley. I understand he is currently finalising the scope of community involvement in both short and long term artwork for the site.
Public meeting
The next public meeting will take place on March 18 at 7pm. If you would like to attend please let me know and I will pass your details onto the project team directly, or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Work experience
Balfour Beatty will be launching a launching five-week virtual work experience with local schools across March and April with a direct link to the project.
