Offpeakfares

I welcome the scrapping of peak fares across ScotRail services for the next six months.

This ambitions trial – funded by the SNP Scottish Government - will see the end of peak fares on all ScotRail services until March 2024.

There are significant concerns over the action of the owners of Stobhill Care Home who have de-recognised trade union representation and sought to undermine employee conditions of service.

I met with GMB Scotland to hear of the concerns of employees. Following that meeting I have now corresponded formally with owners, Clyde Care, and urged them to engage with GMB to resolve this deeply worrying and unacceptable situation.

Night Bus Services in Glasgow

I was disappointing to see First Glasgow’s plans to cancel the weekend night-bus service in Glasgow. It will impact residents in Maryhill, as well as right across the city.

Recently, I had been concerned about the lack of night-bus service to the North East of the city to areas such as Springburn and beyond. I had hoped we could try and see an increase in the service, not a full reduction.

I was hugely disappointed to read about the discovery of asbestos in the roof of the currently closed Ruchill Community Centre.

I wrote to Glasgow Life to ask what works have taken place to date and what the costs have been. I also wanted to know what works remained outstanding and what the estimated costs and budget was to see them completed. I was also keen to understand when the community centre had been anticipated to reopen?

I have now had a reply from the Chief Executive of Glasgow Life that I wished to share with constituents.

Great to catch up with the Milton Rattlers this morning. Hearty breakfasts on offer and a visit from the Lord Provost to help mark the funding secured from partners to allow them to run lots more activities. Well done everyone and I look forward to catching up again soon.

Winnie Ewing

So sad to learn of Winnie’s passing. An inspiration for so many and giant of our independence movement. Heartfelt condolences to Annabelle and Fergus; and the whole Ewing family xx

Social Media Graphics Promate site update

On Monday 19th of June I met with stakeholders to discuss various matters relating to the former Promat site. They were City Council, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA).

I stressed that I have been raising issues with this site as long ago as 2019 and had previously described the site as an accident waiting to happen. Recently there were two fires at the site, one on 1 May 2023 and the second (the major fire) on 31 May 2023

Fire Springburn

Very concerning fire last night in Springburn. I understand this was at the former Promat site on Petershill Road. I have raised concerns on several occasions over the years and I am contacting Glasgow City Council and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to follow up once more and will ask for a meeting to discuss what happened and how we can prevent recurrence.

Last night was an example of putting lives at risk from those frequenting the building, the fire service having to deal with the fire and the smoke that the wider area is subject to.

It is clear the owners of the site now urgently need to be pursued and the building levelled and site cleared.
